Environmental Responsibility

At Butler West, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact. We believe sustainability is a top priority and is considered through all stages of a project, to deliver electrical solutions that are energy efficient, have low operating costs and use sustainable materials and recyclable products, wherever possible.
We are conscious of our responsibility towards protecting the environment and we are focused on delivering electrical solutions that are environmentally sensitive. We believe that sustainability starts with intelligent design.

LIGHTING

Lighting accounts for up to 14% of total electricity consumption. It consumes more energy than either heating or ventilation, so improvements in its efficiency will have proportionately the greatest impact on power consumption.

Only 10% of the energy used in lighting is converted into light, the rest of the energy is wasted in providing unwanted heat. 50% savings can be made without reducing standards, just by introducing simple, efficient and cost-effective measures that are available today, ensuring that:

  • the quality and quantity of lighting standards are provided
  • the most suitable equipment is used
  • the hours of use are controlled
  • the system is maintained in efficient working order

With simple practices such as turning off lights when they are not needed, energy can easily be saved, however, it is not just the choice of the light source that can reduce energy consumption but also the fixtures, fittings and controls.

Butler West sources products from manufacturers who actively support our energy saving actions by:

  • promoting the practice of energy efficiency
  • providing energy efficient products
  • using recycled material

Butler West Energy Efficiency Measures:

Energy Efficiency Measures Energy Savings (%)
Replace existing lights with LEDs
75-92
Install Intelligent Lighting Controls (PIR)
20-75
Replace tungsten GLS lamps with compact fluorescent lamps
40-70
Replace old fluorescents with High Frequency lighting
20-25

Phase Balancing:

Some clients may benefit from phase balancing and power factor correction, however we recognise that every client is different. The benefit is a significantly improved knowledge of how/where an organisation uses energy. Once this is established, costs can be predicted, informed decisions about energy consumption can be made and the ROI of any measures implemented can be calculated.

Typically, a reduction of between 8-20% can be achieved through the regulation of power supply.
